3D Photos These photos of a DNM 3D Twin preamplifier (with a transparent case chosen) are courtesy of Concert Sound, a DNM dealer in the USA. Front view - this 3D Twin preamplifier is shown without any phono input boards and in this form it could be used with line level sources and CD. Note the headphone output located on the left of the mute button and the mono switch located between the two volume controls. In this case the mute button is marked 2 which identifies this pre-amplifier as a "Twin" model, the middle one in the range. Rear view - of the transparent pre-amp showing the full extent of the unique non-metal construction. This is one of the design features that gives DNM products their big dynamic range. The changeable power supply distribution pcb can be seen in parallel with and underneath the motherboard. This is changed with each optional power supply to achieve the ideal circuit pattern on all models. Left Rear - sockets - this shows the extra two optional line inputs aux 1 and 2, making a total of 5 line inputs Right Rear sockets - Disc 1 and 2 input sockets accept two RIAA sources (two turntables) in any combination of moving coil or moving magnet. The arm ground lead for each turntable can be connected to the two 2mm sockets marked 0V. Line Input boards - the left and right channel line amplifier boards are located directly behind the volume controls. Twin board arrangement ensures that the two circuits mirror each other to keep the electrical impedance constant. These line amplifiers set new standard of performance for DNM products. They also directly drive the headphones when they are connected to the pre-amplifier making the DNM a reference standard headphone amplifier. DNM Controls - the photograph shows the classic DNM arrangement of independent volume controls and rotary selector switch. The volume potentiometers and the switches are all selected to maintain a constant spacing between the signal plus/minus controlling the impedance in all parts of the circuit. The green 2 button lights up when it is pressed to the "out position" to mute the preamplifier. When the pre-amplifier being used all lights are off to minimise electrical noise. The toggle switch on the left selects between two sets of RIAA amplifiers when fitted. The one on the right selects the type of tape output signal, either fixed line level or volume controlled main output level. Twin Power Supply Unit - showing the optional high performance EI transformer and the DNM T Network capacitors. The transformer is mounted on a turntable to allow orientation to reduce hum. The totally non-metal construction ensures that the casework cannot magnetically interfere with the internal circuits. Preamplifier and PSU together - each DNM unit is only 27cm wide and 12cm high so the total width on the shelf is only 54cm. The ultra-high performance and very long operating life of these compact amplifiers make them an extremely attractive alternative to valve equipment. |
