The DNM RF termination system, named "High Frequency Termination Network" (HFTN), is a precision circuit that controls the radio frequency (RF) load presented by the cable to the amplifier. The HFTN terminates the cable at the radio frequencies that are generated by the amplifier's feedback system.
Audio frequency signals are not directly modified by the HFTN but the amplifier/cable RF interface is so greatly improved that the amplifier's feedback accuracy is enhanced. This gives a substantial increase in audio clarity.

Existing DNM cables can now be upgraded with In-Plug High Frequency Termination Networks (HFTNs) on the DNM online shop by adding In-Plug HFTNs inside the plugs.
This product is suitable for any DNM cable using DNM and Eichmann phono plugs or DNM DIN plugs.

Just order ONE upgrade for each stereo cable - this includes the necessary four HFTNs needed for a stereo cable - this product includes ALL the fitting charges.

Then return your cable to DNM Design for the work to be done. We will turn
upgrade orders around as quickly as possible so that you will not be
without your hi-fi for too long, and if this cannot be done within 1 to
2 days we will send some loan DNM cable(s) to replace the ones you are
upgrading. (Please email DNM Design to check if loan cables may be needed.)

Please note that all the types of HFTN are the same price and the
correct type will be fitted in accordance with the type of plug on the
cable.

Background
Audio cables are intended to work in the audible frequency range from 20Hz to 20,000Hz. At the low end, cables transmit energy down to direct current and at the highest frequencies some signal sources extend up to 100,000Hz.
1) the units used to measure high frequencies are kiloHertz (kHz) for thousands of Hertz
(1 Hertz = 1 cycle per second) and MegaHertz (MHz) for millions of Hertz.
2) the term 'amplifier' applies not only to the power amplifier driving the speakers, but to all the amplifiers used in the audio chain, including the pre-amplifier, the output amplifiers in the CD player, D-to-A converter, radio tuner, MP3 player etc.

The problem
When an audio cable is connected to an amplifier it interacts with a range of frequencies that are much higher than anticipated. The cable is exposed to radio frequencies (RF) that extend above 100MHz and this unexpected energy is injected into the cable by the feedback system in the amplifier.

Feedback is used in almost every amplifier to define gain and reduce distortion. It is generally thought that it improves amplifier performance without adversely affecting sound quality. However, because feedback action occurs at very high frequencies, any RF non-linearity in the amplifier can interact with the cable and cause degradation of the audio signal.
This interaction is a primary cause of the differences heard in audio cables.

One easily measured consequence is severe load dips in the cable impedance, as seen by the amplifier, down to just a few Ohms at multiple points across the RF range. The uneven RF loading occurs in interconnect and speaker cables and it significantly degrades amplifier performance, resulting in glare and loss of clarity.

The DNM solution
DNM research has shown that it is possible to minimise this problem by controlling the RF termination of the cable so that it will not interact.
(In the valve amplifier heyday, impedance matched connections were widely used mainly to avoid signal loss, but in modern hi-fi this discipline seems to have been forgotten)

As a result we have developed a production version of the RF termination system.
Named a "High Frequency Termination Network" (HFTN), it is a precision circuit that almost eliminates RF load variation in DNM cables whilst remaining transparent to audio signal.
HFTNs are available on micro-PCBs small enough to fit inside interconnect plugs and soon DNM will release another version that will fit onto the ends of DNM speaker cable. The HFTN can be added to existing DNM cables or ordered with new DNM cables.
With HFTNs the performance of the amplifier/cable system is significantly improved, resulting in a surprising increase in audio clarity.

So all you now need to order is :

the cable required
plus
TWO of this product for one end of the cable - i.e. order FOUR if you want a pair of mono DNM DIN plugs at BOTH ends of the cable.
(For DNM PA2 or PA3 power amplifier cables you would normally order cable and TWO of this product plus one of the equivalent product for stereo use i.e. with two fitted HFTNs but with only ONE DNM DIN plug.)

ALL fitting charges are included in this product.
